Assab, 12 November 2013 – Reports indicated that a seminar was conducted in the Southern Red Sea region with a view to giving impetus to sports activities.
In a study paper he presented the seminar, Mr. Isie Ahmed, head of the Tourism Department in the regional Administration, explained that competence of sportspersons in the domain of sports is among the factors for gauging national development, and noted the need of exerting sustained efforts to this end. He further gave briefings concerning the causes of the prevailing weakness as regards football.
In the same vein, Mr. Ibrahim Saleh, sports commissioner in the region, said that laying the necessary infrastructural facilities has remarkable impact in fostering sports activities, and noted the imperatives in this connection, including the required focus on children. Such activities should keep intact public foundation, he added.
The seminar participants put forth views pertaining to several issues and elected a new board of directors for regional sports activities.
Mr. Tesfatsion Girmai, head of administration and finance in the regional Administration, stated that sport is a means towards nurturing physically fit and virtuous youths, and called on nationals to extend a helping hand for its development. He also voiced the Administration’s readiness to demonstrate commitment in this regard.
