Anti-polio child immunization campaign launched in Gash-Barka

The Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region indicated that anti-polio child immunization campaign has been launched in all Administrative areas as of last Wednesday, and called on Area administrations and communities to work jointly for the realization of the cherished goal.

Barentu, 15 November 2013 – The Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region indicated that anti-polio child immunization campaign has been launched in all Administrative areas as of last Wednesday, and called on Area administrations and communities to work jointly for the realization of the cherished goal.

Mr. Berhane Abraha from the branch office noted the importance of conducting such campaign in connection with the prevalence of polio’s morbidity in the neighboring countries although the disease was eradicated 15 years back from the Homeland. Accordingly, the campaign would continue until the 19th of this month in the sub-zones of Laelai-Gash, Molqi, Shambuko, Mogolo and Mensura, and is due to get underway from the 20th to the 27th of the same month in the remaining  sub-zones.

Reports indicated that a total of 509 vaccination stations have been established and 480 health professionals mobilized in line with the program, while the total number of children below 5 years of age are expected to be immunized stands at 115,000.

Mr. Berhane called on parents to enhance collaboration in the course of the campaign, and advised them to instantly report cases of illness in children that manifest paralysis.
