Irrigation farms in Mai-Aini sub-zone witnessing noteworthy development

The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Mai-Aini sub-zone pointed out that irrigation farms in the locality are witnessing noteworthy development in connection with increased individual efforts on the part of farmers.

Mai-Aini, 18 November 2013 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Mai-Aini sub-zone pointed out that irrigation farms in the locality are witnessing noteworthy development in connection with increased individual efforts on the part of farmers.

Mr. Zebib Kahsai, head of the branch office, disclosed that the vegetable and fruit farms in the sub-zone rely on water supply from the rivers of Mereb and Sebene, and explained that the harvest from such farms constitutes significant input in meeting local demand. He further indicated that the dams in Sesewe and Ona-Fer’on have made vital impact in enriching underground water resources.

One of the farmers, Mr. Cheay Teklegiorgis stated that he is in a position to cultivate vegetables and fruits in a total of 6.7 hectares, thus currently in the course of settling his liabilities. He also said that the Ministry has extended them dairy cattle on the basis of loan with a view to promoting the level of production thereof.
