Asmara, 22 November 2013 – The participants of the a joint assessment meeting in Asmara today pointed out that the SWP has made significant impact as regards nurturing the culture of work among the young generation, besides its crucial input in prompting environmental stability.
Speaking at the meeting in which Ministers, regional Administrators, heads of national Associations, agriculture experts, pertinent bodies and stakeholders took part, Mr. Semere Russom, Minister of Education, said that the Program which has effectively been conducted for 20 years has given rise to tangible outcome. He further made note of the vital role of regional Administrations in the realization of the cherished goal, and explained that such venture needs to gain momentum as it is directly related to important social, economic and other factors.
The basement reports presented by regional Administrations reveal that noteworthy quantifiable growth has been registered pertaining to the number of participants and impact regarding soil and water conservation.
Mr. Fitwi Woldegiorgis, head of the SWP in the Ministry of Education, stated that the implementation of the Program has so far demanded a total expenditure of 194 billion Nakfa, while gratifying achievement has subsequently been registered in 43 domains. There is a plan to award exemplary regions in this connection, he added.
The participants of the meeting conducted extensive discussion on the agenda items and put forth views targeting a number of issues.
