First round anti-polio vaccination campaign described successful in Gash-Barka region

The Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region indicated that the first round anti-polio vaccination campaign which was conducted from 20 to 24 November was successful.

 

Barentu, 04 December 2013 – The Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region indicated that the first round anti-polio vaccination campaign which was conducted from 20 to 24 November was successful. It made the remark at an assessment meeting thereof, during which it was stated that 99.5% of the expected number of children below 5 years of age was met in the first phase of the immunization program.

Mr. Berhane Abraha, head of the branch office, disclosed that the undertaking involved a total of 509 stations and 480 health personnel, while the anticipated number of children to be immunized stood at 116,000. He further pointed out that the second round of the campaign would include distribution of Vitamin A and promotion of iodized salt on the basis of schools.

The regional Administrator, Mr. Mohammed Hamd, stated that such accomplishment could be registered thanks to the role of the media and Area administrations as regards addressing communities with the right message and information, besides the irreplaceable input of experts and communities. He further called for stepped-up integrated efforts in the course of the forthcoming campaign.
