A number of prisoners have expressed readiness to enhance participation in endeavors to prevent communicable diseases.
Asmara, 05 December 2013 – A number of prisoners have expressed readiness to enhance participation in endeavors to prevent communicable diseases. They made the pledge in connection with the marking of World AIDS Day this week in prison and rehabilitation centers.
The events witnessed the participation of commanders of prison and rehabilitation centers and representatives of the Health Ministry.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt. Colonel Tewolde Gebreab, head of Administration for the national prison and rehabilitation service, called on prisoners to avoid potential risks in connection with HIV/AIDS risks.
In the same vein, Capt. Yemane Gebremedhin, head of medical service for the national prison and rehabilitation centers, made note of the societal obligation as regards patronizing people living with HIV/AIDS,. He further stated that reinforcement of peer communication thereof is vital in this connection, besides giving impetus to initiatives for VCT. He also indicated that the prison and rehabilitation centers would exert more efforts pertaining to this.
Mr. Berhane Gebreyesus, head of control of communicable diseases in the Health Ministry, called for further participation on the part of national Associations regarding enhancement of promotional activities in this regard.
On the occasion, various prisoners voiced words of goodwill towards the realization of the cherished goal, while various cultural performances and a general knowledge contest was staged.
