Full text of the President’s message follows:
H.E. Mr. Jacob Zuma
President of the Republic of South Africa
Your Excellency,
We have learned with deep sorrow of the passing away of H.E. Mr. Nelson Mandela, post-apartheid South Africa’s beloved first black President. President Mandela was a great African leader and international icon who led the fight against apartheid through the sheer force of his ideals and convictions on human dignity. These ideals which have inspired generations of liberation fighters all over Africa will no doubt embossed on the hearts of all those who value freedom and human dignity.
On this sad occasion, I would like to express my condolences to Your Excellency, and through you, to the people and Government of the Republic of South Africa and to the bereaved family members of the deceased.
Accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.
Isaias Afwerki
President of the State of Eritrea
