Inhabitants of Senafe sub-zone called upon to extend a helping hand as regards promoting environmental hygiene

The Health Ministry’s branch in the Southern region has called on the inhabitants of Senafe sub-zone to extend a helping hand as regards promoting environmental hygiene. It made the call in connection with the implementation of a program pertaining to the introduction of soak-pit latrines in Serha.

Senafe, 07 December 2013 – The Health Ministry’s branch in the Southern region has called on the inhabitants of Senafe sub-zone to extend a helping hand as regards promoting environmental hygiene. It made the call in connection with the implementation of a program pertaining to the introduction of soak-pit latrines in Serha.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Abraham Yemane, head of the branch office, indicated that the sub-zone has become exemplary regarding environmental sanitation as a total of 59 villages have witnessed widespread introduction of the facility. He further called on the inhabitants of the remaining villages to emulate such communal virtue.

In the same vein, the Administrator of the Southern region, Mr. Efrem Gebrekristos, stated that giving impetus to environmental hygiene makes remarkable input in safeguarding community health, and called on the inhabitants to strive for still more gratifying accomplishment to this end.

Mr. Robel Zekristos, in charge of the Ministry’s environmental sanitation department, said on his part that furthering environmental health is a sound strategy of preventing communicable diseases, and called for sustainability of individual and community-based efforts in this regard.

Moreover, Mr. Hizkias Wuhbet, Administrator of the sub-zone, explained that such achievement could be registered thanks to the active participation of the community, and expressed appreciation for the parties that made remarkable input in the process.

The inhabitants on their part voiced readiness to maintain the momentum of the sanitation process through continuing communal input.
