The Administration of Massawa has called for enhanced community participation in the implementation of development activities in the port city.
Massawa, 10 December 2013 – The Administration of Massawa has called for enhanced community participation in the implementation of development activities in the port city. It made the call at an assessment meeting, during which it was stated that successful popular soil and water conservation undertakings have been carried out in the areas of Emberemi, Hirgigo and Dogoli, while crop plantations in a total of 1,500 hectares in the localities are in a good condition.
Accordingly, the hospital in Girar has attained reliable capacity in expertise and service quality, besides the fact that an increasing trend has been noted in school registrations. Moreover, the Administration is exerting endeavors to ensure sustainability pertaining to the city’s potable water supply, and its future undertakings include implementation of the master plan for Addis-Alem and Amatere quarters, as well as facilitating the finishing process of housing complexes in Umkulu area, among others.
The participants of the meeting expressed appreciation for the government’s commitment towards ensuring equitability of social service, and put forth views focusing on several issues. They also asserted readiness to continue backing national development endeavors.
In closing remarks, Mr. Kidane Woldesilassie, Mayor of Massawa, said that success cannot be attained in the domain of development without popular input, and urged the residents to sustain their initiative to this end.
