Construction of Massawa-Qrora road doorway towards fostering trade activities between Eritrea and Sudan: PFDJ Secretary

Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed-Seid, Secretary of the PFDJ, pointed out that  the construction of the road connecting Massawa and Qrora is a doorway towards fostering trade activities between Eritrea and Sudan, as well as proper harnessing of marine resources.

Asmara, 23 December 2013 – Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed-Seid, Secretary of the PFDJ, pointed out that  the construction of the road connecting Massawa and Qrora is a doorway towards fostering trade activities between Eritrea and Sudan, as well as proper harnessing of marine resources. He made the remark at a meeting with the inhabitants of the areas along Massawa-Weqiro route, during which he indicated that the ongoing infrastructural activity is in line with the government’s rural development policy which gives priority to remote areas.

Mr. Ogbai Gebresilasie, Manager of Red Sea Construction Company, disclosed that a distance of around 120 Km. off Massawa has been leveled with dirt so far, and that the introduction of new machinery has given impetus to the process.

Mr. Hamdan Mohammed-Abdalla, a member of the Assembly of the Northern Red Sea region, on his part noted the strategic importance of the road in connection with linking remote areas vis-à-vis its potential impact as regards improving the livelihood of the communities including members of the Rashaida ethnic group.

In coincidence with the meeting, the inhabitants of the area hosted lunch honoring the employees of the construction company engaged in the implementation of the project, and the event witnessed cultural performances.
