The Administration of Gala-Nefhi sub-zone hosted dinner and extended awards to professional cyclists who registered remarkable achievement in international competitions.

Asmara, 26 December 2013 – The Administration of Gala-Nefhi sub-zone hosted dinner and extended awards to professional cyclists who registered remarkable achievement in international competitions.

Accordingly, a total of 21 cyclists, 12 of whom comprising females, received 1,000 Nakfa each, while 4 other females who registered vibrant victory in such tournaments were rewarded 5,000 Nakfa.

Mr. Habte Gebremariam, Administrator of the sub-zone, explained that such modest awards and the conducting of children’s sports festivals attest to the existence of pleasant communal ground for sports development. Dynamic sportspersons can be nurtured within such environment, he added.

Among the victorious cyclists, Wehazit Kidane and Tsehaynesh Fitsum expressed satisfaction with the community-driven award, and said that they would do their level best to attain higher achievement.

Meanwhile, the Sports Commission’s branch in the region has called for more efforts with a view to giving added impetus to sports activities. It made the call at an assessment meeting in which veteran and Olympian sportspersons were present.

In the course of the meeting, the strong aspect of the organization and the prevailing challenges were discussed thoroughly. Furthermore, there exists a plan to invigorate sports activities among schools in collaboration with stakeholders.
