The inhabitants of Haterdiwar village, Gogne sub-zone, said that they would sustain community initiative with a view to preventing communicable diseases on the basis of furthering environmental hygiene.

Gogne, 28 December 2013 – The inhabitants of Haterdiwar village, Gogne sub-zone, said that they would sustain community initiative with a view to preventing communicable diseases on the basis of furthering environmental hygiene.

In this connection, Mr. Bahbelom Tiumzgi, Head of the health center in Gogne, pointed out that the conducting of continued community sensitization activities has given rise to raised community awareness in the locality. Accordingly, a number of villages in the sub-zone have become beneficiaries of soak-pit latrines, while more efforts would be made in this regard.

Mr. Abdu Yacob, Head of environmental hygiene in the Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region, disclosed that joint endeavors by communities, local Administrations and health professionals have borne significant impact pertaining to registering more achievement in lowering instances of communicable diseases. He also lauded the inhabitants of Haterdiwar’s resort to sanitation-bound community initiative.
