Massawa, 28 December 2013 – The participants of the a joint seminar among the branch offices of the NUEW, Ministry of Health and the Court in the Nothern Red Sea region have called for enhanced community role as regards promoting equitability of women’s participation in all domains.
Briefings were given pertaining to the negative impact of childhood marriage, women’s awareness and gender equity, as well as harmful customary practices in the course of the meeting in which sub-zonal Administrators and Heads of line ministries and national Associations were present.
The seminar participants noted the role of women in the overall societal activities, and pointed out that the nurturing of behavioral change is a prerequisite towards the realization of the cherished goal.
Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Mes’uda Humed, Head of the NUEW’s regional branch, disclosed that stepped-up efforts are being exerted towards ensuring gender equality. He further and called on members to enhance collective participation in efforts aimed at doing away with harmful customary practices.
