Mendefera, 04 January 2014 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Mendefera sub-zone stated that livestock farmers are stepping up activities with a view to meeting growing local demand.

Mr. Habtom Laine from the branch office indicated that the locality has been witnessing growing number of farmers engaging in dairy farming and animal fattening, thus giving rise to their current stage of working as an Association on their part. Such an environment of synergism has also fostered the production of broilers and besides promoting swine farming and other bovine species, Mr. Habtom explained.

Among the farmers, Mr. Negash Haile said that after joining the Association he is practicing the fattening of a total of 150 oxen that would be ready for slaughter within 3 months. His plan extended to the scope of supplying up to 600 bulls a year vis-à-vis securing the required supply of animal feed.
