Prisoners in Sembel Prison and Rehabilitation Center have celebrated New Year and Christmas with zeal.
Asmara, 08 January 2014 – Prisoners in Sembel Prison and Rehabilitation Center have celebrated New Year and Christmas with zeal.
Speaking on the occasion during which invited guests were present, Maj. Mehari Andebirhan, Commander of the Center, pointed out that sustained efforts have been exerted towards raising the production capacity of prisoners through organizing academic and training courses. The Center also retains a culture of harmony in celebrating such religious events, he added.
Mr. Yonas Gebreyohannes, an Eritrean national residing in Sweden, explained that a celebration of this type attests to the government’s bold concern regarding humanity.
Among prisoners, Mr. Mussie Asmerom, Mr. Jemal Zeinu, Mr. Bahta Tewolde and Dr. Abdalla Omar indicated that there prevails spirit of mutual respect among the members of the community, thus providing the groundwork for the process of rehabilitation. They also expressed conviction that exposure to cultural shows have positive impact as regards nurturing moral virtue among prisoners.
