Augaro, 11 January 2014 – The Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region stated that health seminars are making significant impact as regards raising community awareness in remote areas.

It made the remark at a seminar pertaining to reproductive health that was conducted with the inhabitants of Gerenfit Administrative area.

Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Sultan Hagos, Head of communications and information in the branch office, said that community awareness as regards prevention of various diseases has grown remarkably thanks to the organizing of such seminars, and that the number of mothers attending antenatal and postnatal service has shown visible increase.

Likewise, Mr. Yohanes Yemane, head of health services in the sub-zone, noted the merits of protection as opposed to cure, and disclosed that the overall community sensitization activities in connection with the domain are predominantly fine-tuned targeting prevention of diseases.

The participants of the meeting asserted that outreach community sensitization programs have made major input towards promoting community health, especially pertaining to mother and child care. They also called for stepped-up endeavors to this end.
