Inhabitants of Yiga’ar area making preparations to utilize water supply from new micro-dams for irrigational purpose

The inhabitants of Yiga’ar Administrative area, Elabered sub-zone, said that they are making preparations to utilize water supply from new micro-dams for irrigational purpose.

Elabered, 11 January 2014 – The inhabitants of Yiga’ar Administrative area, Elabered sub-zone, said that they are making preparations to utilize water supply from new micro-dams for irrigational purpose. They further expressed readiness to back up implementation of development programs, and lauded the government’s initiative of putting in place water supply facilities both for humans and agricultural activities.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Pawlos Kifle, Mr. Nesredin Hamd and Mr. Bekuretsion Tekle explained that the availability of ample water reserve has instigated community inclination towards irrigational undertakings. They further asserted that they are striving to enrich water resources on the basis of building water catchments areas.

Mr. Zerai Nor, soil and water conservation expert in the locality, disclosed that the micro-dams were constructed through the community’s initiative involving a total expenditure of more than 6 million Nakfa. The necessary study and survey activities have been undertaken with a view to constructing a micro-dam in the locality, and more than 25 hectares in Ad-Omar area would be put under cultivation, he added.
