Forto-Sawa sub-zone: Call made for large-scale introduction of community-based environmental hygiene activities

The Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region has called for large-scale introduction of community-based environmental hygiene activities in Forto-Sawa sub-zone with a view to preventing diseases resulting from lack of sanitation.

Forto-Sawa, 13 January 2014 – The Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region has called for large-scale introduction of community-based environmental hygiene activities in Forto-Sawa sub-zone with a view to preventing diseases resulting from lack of sanitation.

Mr. Abdu Yacob, Head of environmental hygiene in the branch office, indicated that the inhabitants of Silhayit Administrative area have already become beneficiaries of soak-pit latrines and called on the inhabitants of the remaining villages to emulate their initiative so as to prevent instances of communicable diseases.

Likewise, Mr. Haile Hayelom, Head of the health center in the sub-zone, noted that communal awareness regarding health issues is on the rise, and urged the community members to extend a helping hand pertaining to extensive use of latrines. The necessary efforts are being extended to this end, he added.

Mr. Araya Tesfai, Head of administration and finance in the sub-zonal administration, stated that popular environmental activities are at encouraging stage region-wide, and expressed the Administration’s readiness to enhance collaboration in this regard.
