National Sports Week to take place February 2 to 8

The Ministry of Education indicated that the National Sports Week would take place from the 2nd to the 8th of February involving participation of students from the 6 regional Administrations, as well as those from the nation’s Technical Schools.

Asmara, 24 January 2014 – The Ministry of Education indicated that the National Sports Week would take place from the 2nd to the 8th of February involving participation of students from the 6 regional Administrations, as well as those from the nation’s Technical Schools.

Mr. Mehari Mengisteab, Director of the Education Minister’s Office, pointed out that the event is aimed at highlighting the all-round potential within student communities including academic, sports and other capabilities, and that the current theme highlights the need to exert enhanced efforts for enhanced female participation in education and other activities. He further disclosed that the National Olympics Committee has prepared special award in connection with the event, and called on private and governmental institutes as well as parents to step up participation in the event with a view to instigating higher zeal.

Accordingly, the programs of the event seek simplicity in the competitions with more emphasis on athletics and football. About 1,115 students are expected to participate in the event, according to reports.
