Inhabitants of Adi-Nifas engage in soil and water conservation activities

The inhabitants of Adi-Nifas village, Akria sub-zone, are undertaking soil and water conservation activities with a view to promoting environmental stability and raising agricultural output.

Asmara, 25 January 2014 – The inhabitants of Adi-Nifas village, Akria sub-zone, are undertaking soil and water conservation activities with a view to promoting environmental stability and raising agricultural output.

Mr. Zecarias Gebresilassie, Administrator of the village, indicated that the undertaking is characterized by the prevalence of communal awareness and consultation of agriculture experts, and that more than 300 people are participating on the basis of teams.

Likewise, Mr. Mekonen Belai, a member of the village’s development committee, asserted that such an initiative is vital as regards promoting the culture of work, in addition to its primary as regards environment and harvest domains. He also stated that active popular participation is being witnessed in the process.

Among the community members, Mr. Kahsai Gebregziabher, Ms. Roma Woldu and Mr. Adem Ahmed expressed readiness to step up participation in such community-led ventures that also involve afforestation.

Ms. Dehab Tesfai, Administrator of the sub-zone, voiced appreciation for the prevailing community awareness and initiative to this end, and disclosed that a number of holes have been dug for plantation of tree seedlings.
