The Health Ministry’s branch in the Southern Red Sea region indicated that it has registered significant outcome regarding promoting community health in 2013.
Assab, 28 January 2014 – The Health Ministry’s branch in the Southern Red Sea region indicated that it has registered significant outcome regarding promoting community health in 2013. It made the remark at an assessment meeting in the port city of Assab, during which Mr. Asefaw Gebremeskel, Head of the branch office, pointed out that instances of communicable diseases are remarkably on the decline, especially that of TB, while mother and child mortality rate dropped by 91% and 44% respectively.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Amina Nur-Hussein, Minister of Health, said that the Ministry has been exerting stepped-up efforts in a bid to raising community awareness regarding medical services, controlling communicable diseases, raising human resource capacity in connection with the sector and the putting in place of the necessary infrastructural facilities. She further stated that future undertakings of the branch office would focus on effective prevention of potential cross-border polio infection and enhancing communal participation in health promotion activities.
