Asmara, 29 January 2014 – The National Forestry and Wildlife Authority today conducted an assessment meeting in Asmara city.
Speaking at the meeting in which the Minister of Agriculture was present, Mr. Abraha Garza Managing Director of the Office, pointed out that major accomplishments have been registered as regards afforestation and related undertakings in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, students and members of the People’s Army. He further stated that forestry and wildlife conservation demands active participation of communities and government bodies.
The meeting witnessed thorough scrutiny of the Authority’s activities in 2013 vis-à-vis the exsting challenges thereof, in addition to presenting of work plan for 2014.
The participants of the meeting put forth views focusing on various issues, including ways and means of reinforcing anti-deforestation mechanisms.
In closing remarks, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, Minister of Agriculture, said that environmental development and higher agricultural production could not be attained in the absence of sound forestry and wildlife management, and called on the citizenry to extend a helping hand to this end.
