Afabet, 31 January 2014 – The Administration of Afabet sub-zone indicated that efforts exerted towards promoting social service outreach last year have registered remarkable impact.
Mr. Ahmed Mohammed-Nur Rejeb, Administrator of the sub-zone, disclosed that the accomplishments of the year pertain to popular soil and water conservation, and that active community participation was demonstrated in the process. He further pointed out that initiatives have been taken to meet the demand for potable water, including in Afabet semi-urban center, while potable water supply facilities in a number of areas have been renovated.
Accordingly, community awareness regarding health issues is on the rise, besides the dropping trend shown in instances of mother and child mortality. Moreover, gratifying impact has been registered in connection with education, thus giving rise to enhanced school enrollment, with more pitch on the part of females.
Mr. Ahmed also stated that future undertaking would focus on community-led soil and water conservation ventures, construction of a dam in Qilamet and fencing of schools, among others. In this regards, he called for stepped-up participation on the part of the inhabitants.
