Association of Dairy Farmers in Areza sub-zone to step up efforts with a view to raising milk production

The Association of Dairy Farmers in Areza sub-zone said that it would step up efforts with a view to raising milk production so as to meet local demand on the basis of enhancing organizational capacity and breeding more efficient cattle species.

Areza, 04 February 2014 – The Association of Dairy Farmers in Areza sub-zone said that it would step up efforts with a view to raising milk production so as to meet local demand on the basis of enhancing organizational capacity and breeding more efficient cattle species.  It made the remark at an assessment meeting, during which it was stated that current challenges of the Association pertain to shortage of green feed and inadequacy of grazing areas, and that initiative has been taken to raise production of green feed.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Andemeskel Tikuabo, Chairman of the Association, said that the initiative would witness participation of the local Administration.

The Association members on their part called for further involvement of agricultural experts in consultation with them, in addition to increased supply of livestock feed and extending farming land plot for green feed production.

Established in the year 2008, the Association of Dairy Farmers in Areza sub-zone currently has a total of 118 members jointly owning 649 cattle of different breeds.
