Asmara’s Mai-Jahjah Fountain and its environs is being renovated at a total expenditure of more than 8 million Nakfa in line with the Asmara Municipal Administration’s ongoing efforts to refurbish such spots of the city.

Asmara, 06 February 2014 –Asmara’s Mai-Jahjah Fountain and its environs is being renovated at a total expenditure of more than 8 million Nakfa in line with the Asmara Municipal Administration’s ongoing efforts to refurbish such spots of the city.

Mr. Abraham Haile, Administrator of Geza-Banda sub-zone, disclosed that the process would involve all-round redecoration of the facility, and that construction of walls and installation of electricity, water and other lines has already been accomplished. He further indicated that joint endeavors are being exerted to make the site green vis-à-vis the putting in place of a water reservoir and public toilet, while accommodations would be created for new service businesses.

Accordingly, the facility would have sustained water supply in connection with the setting up of a water pump at a separate wellspring, and active community participation is being witnessed in the process.

Mr. Yosef Tewolde, coordinator of such projects, pointed out that various trees and flowers would be planted in the area along with the erecting of park seats, solar energy-powered light poles and other decorations.
