The inhabitants of 28 villages in Serejeqa sub-zone are engaged in an extensive and highly organized soil and water conservation undertaking with a view to raising agricultural output and promoting sound environmental condition.

Serejeqa, 07 February 2014 – The inhabitants of 28 villages in Serejeqa sub-zone are engaged in an extensive and highly organized soil and water conservation undertaking with a view to raising agricultural output and promoting sound environmental condition.

Among the inhabitants, Ms. Akberet Almede, Mr. Afwerki Gerezgiher, Ms. Hiriyti Tewoldemedhin and Mr. Mahrezgi Gebregergish, Administrator of Geshnashim and Adekelom area, said that the popular venture involves prevention of erosion and restoration of erosion-hit areas. They further expressed satisfaction for taking part in the task, and asserted that they would demonstrate higher commitment until the culmination of the process.

Mr. Tesfu Fissehatsion, Administrator of the sub-zone, and Mr. Amine Teklai, Head of the Agriculture Ministry’s sub-zonal branch, disclosed that an afforestation and terracing plan that would continue with a time scope lasting until 2018 is set for implementation in the locality. According to the ongoing undertaking, every village is due to cover a total area of 10 to 20 hectares.
