Official ceremony of 24th anniversary of Operation Fenkil marked with patriotic zeal

The official ceremony of the 24th anniversary of Operation Fenkil was marked today at Sigalet Ketan with patriotic zeal.

Massawa, 08 February 2014 – The official ceremony of the 24th anniversary of Operation Fenkil was marked today at Sigalet Ketan with patriotic zeal.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Siraj Haji from the Administration of the Northern Red Sea region noted the significance of the event as a symbol of the patriotic feats registered in the course of the armed struggle, and thus constituting a legacy for future generations. He further lauded the institutions that made outstanding contribution in organizing the event vis-à-vis the hospitality of the residents of Massawa.

Also speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kidane Woldesilasie, Mayor of the port city, indicated that Operation Fenkil constitutes a remarkable turning point in the armed struggle in connection with the fact that it was the doorway to assurance of national independence.

The staging of various cultural performances highlighting the significance of the operation added color to the official ceremony.
