Debarwa, 12 February 2014 – In meetings they conducted recently in their respective areas, the Administrations of Debarwa and Dekemhare sub-zones said that they are stepping up endeavors towards raising popular participation in development activities.
Mr. Abraham Teka, Administrator of Debarwa sub-zone, disclosed that a total of 84 Km. dirt roads have been renovated and upgraded at an aggregate community fund of 2.4 million Nakfa, while a 140 km-long main road was refurbished and new ones were constructed. He further indicated that gratifying accomplishments have been made pertaining to soil and water conservation as well as education, and that irrigation activities would be launched this year in the environs of the dams in the locality.
Meanwhile, the participants of the meeting in Dekemhare city assessed that the major recent achievements which involved popular input are related to soil and water conservation, installation of water pipes, environmental hygiene, tax collection, promotion of sports activities, as well as the putting in place of public toilets.
Moreover, note-worthy move has been registered regarding production of fruits and vegetables, especially introduction of sweet potato and milk output.
