Inhabitants of Qar’obel area undertaking popular campaigns aimed at raising agricultural output

The inhabitants of Qar’obel Administrative area, Habero sub-zone, are undertaking popular campaigns involving construction of diversion canals with a view to raising agricultural output.

Habero, 12 February 2014 – The inhabitants of Qar’obel Administrative area, Habero sub-zone, are undertaking popular campaigns involving construction of diversion canals with a view to raising agricultural output.

They further indicated that prevailing communal awareness has inspired higher individual participation in such initiatives.

Mr. Idris Suleiman and Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed explained that thanks to various promotional activities the awareness of the public has been raised, and expressed appreciation for the active collaboration of the members of the People’s Army and Administration of Anseba region.

Likewise, Mr. Idris-Nor Ibrahim and Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim stated that active community participation is being witnessed in the community-led venture, and asserted that they would sustain efforts until its finalization.

Mr. Tesfai Kidane, soil and water conservation expert in the sub-zone, said that a diversion canal is being constructed on Anseba river in a bid to irrigate a total of 100 hectares in Lemait area.

Subsequently a 350-meter high water catchment wall of 6-meter breadth has been built so far, while the putting in place of a diversion canal in Fiza which has a capacity of irrigating around 24 hectares is due to be 6-meters before the onset of the rainy season.
