Extensive popular undertaking underway in Mendefera sub-zone

An extensive popular undertaking is being conducted in Mendefera sub-zone involving members of the People’s Army and in tune with a work program jointly drawn up by the Agriculture Ministry’s branch and the local Administration.

Mendefera, 17 February 2014 – An extensive popular undertaking is being conducted in Mendefera sub-zone involving members of the People’s Army and in tune with a work program jointly drawn up by the Agriculture Ministry’s branch and the local Administration.

Mr. Mekonen Fisehaye, soil and water conservation expert, disclosed that 21 cubic meters of water catchment walls and 68 km. of terraces have been constructed on an area of 398 cubic meters enclosed for the establishment of a woodland. He further disclosed that the communal venture is scheduled 3 times a week, and that a total of 45,000 wild tree seedlings would be planted.

Likewise, Mr. Teklehaimanot Gebremichael, Head of engineering services and project management in the sub-zonal Administration, stated that the community task is aimed at ensuring environmental stability.

Among the participants of the undertaking, Mr. Mohammed Suleiman and Mr. Tinsae Habte expressed satisfaction for having taken part in the popular program where active community participation is being witnessed.

Ms. Abeba Gebreab, Administrator of Adi-Wogri area, explained that the community members are demonstrating higher input vis-à-vis the prevalence of raised awareness thereof, and indicated that the process is expected to be finalized before the planned time.
