Dekemhare sub-zone: Extensive preparations underway for rain-fed farming

Reports indicated that extensive preparation are being made to reinforce rain-fed farming in Dekemhare sub-zone on the basis of  joint popular venture between communities and members of the People’s Army.

Dekemhare, 22 February 2013 – Reports indicated that extensive preparation are being made to reinforce rain-fed farming in Dekemhare sub-zone on the basis of  joint popular venture between communities and members of the People’s Army.

The undertaking being carried out twice a week predominantly involves soil and water conservation techniques.Among the inhabitants, Mr. Tesfai Bariagabir, Mr. Mohammed Saleh Cheba’e, Ms. Letekidan Gebru and Ms. Fatima Osman pointed out that active communal participation is being witnessed in the process as a result of the prevailing awareness thereof, and that similar popular task has given rise to increased harvest in Ala area. They also disclosed that the pace of farmland preparation has covered a total area of 8 hectares within few working days, while a number of water catchment walls and terraces have been constructed.

Accordingly, the community members have acquired higher awareness that water conservation makes greater impact as regards enhancing agricultural output. One of the members of the People’s Army, Abdulaziz Beyan expressed satisfaction with taking part in the undertaking, and stated that they would sustain participation until the onset of the rainy season.
