Call made for empowerment of community-based sports activities

At a meeting conducted in Gala Nefhi sub-zone aimed at strengthening efforts to develop sports activities, call has been made for the empowerment of community-based sports activities on the basis of popular participation.

 

Asmara, 26 February 2014– At a meeting conducted in Gala Nefhi sub-zone aimed at strengthening efforts to develop sports activities, call has been made for the empowerment of community-based sports activities on the basis of popular participation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Habte Gebremariam, Administrator of the sub-zone, indicated that sports activities have significant impact on the national development programs, besides promoting love and unity among the youth, and called for higher input on the part of government bodies and stakeholders so as to nurture competent youth in the sub-zone.

Mr. GebrekidanTewelde, Administrator of Adi-Guaedad village, explained that there are currently more than 300 youth active in sports in the sub-zone whose ages are diverse, and that female participation in this regard is on the rise. He also underlined his expectation to witness the different sports committees reinforce activities for the development of sports in their locality. He further expressed appreciation for the active participation of communities and stakeholders.

The participants conducted extensive discussion and elected a 15-membered managing committee for sports activities.
