The inhabitants of Shaka-Wegriet Administrative area, Asmat sub-zone, are engaged in the construction of a micro-dam in collaboration with the members of the People’s Army towards securing viable potable water supply.
Asmat, 04 March 2014 – The inhabitants of Shaka-Wegriet Administrative area, Asmat sub-zone, are engaged in the construction of a micro-dam in collaboration with the members of the People’s Army towards securing viable potable water supply.
Among the participants, Mr. Sied Idris, Ms. Nura Sied and Mr. Mohammed Idris indicated that the area has been witnessing water shortage, and that they have used been traveling for 6 hours to fetch water. They also expressed conviction that the locality’s demand for potable water would be met following the finalization of the micro-dam’s construction.
Likewise, Mr. Mohammed Sied, School Director, indicated that potable water shortage used to negatively affect the teaching-learning process.
Mr. Omer Mohammed-Idris, Administrator of the area, explained that the problem could be solved through construction of ponds as well as carrying out of soil and water conservation undertakings. He further stated that enhanced popular participation is being demonstrated in the process, and disclosed that there is a plan to construct a new dirt road connecting Asneda semi-urban center with the village.
Shaka-Wegriet village, located some 20 km. north-east of Asneda semi-urban center, is inhabited by a total of 1,150 families.
