Southern region: Endeavors exerted towards fostering educational excellence witness positive outcome
The Education Ministry’s branch has indicated that endeavors exerted towards fostering educational excellence in the Southern region have registered positive outcome.
Mendefera, 04 march2014 – The Education Ministry’s branch has indicated that endeavors exerted towards fostering educational excellence in the Southern region have registered positive outcome. It made the remark at an assessment meeting, during which it was stated that 94.5% and 79.3% of Elementary and Junior students respectively scored passing marks, while that of High School student’s stands at 76.8%.
Presenting a report at the meeting, Mr. Hibtizgi Kidane from the branch office disclosed that the opening of 2 High Schools in Mai-Aini and Mendefera has made significant impact as regards furthering educational outreach, besides the timely issuance of educational supplies to students. He further stated that more efforts would be made with a view to strengthening the tripartite relation among teachers, parents and students. He further lauded the active collaboration that parents are demonstrating with teachers.
Also speaking at the meeting, Mr. Efrem Gebrekristos, the regional Administrator, called for enhanced endeavors on the part of local Administrations, the regional Assembly and PFDJ branches in a bid to promote educational excellence. He also expressed the Administration’s readiness to step up collaboration in this regard.
The participants of the meeting put forth views focusing on a number of issues.
In closing remarks, the Minister of Education, Mr. Semere Russom, pointed out that the government has been organizing a range of training programs so as to give impetus to the teaching-learning process. He further urged pertinent bodies to extend a helping hand towards attaining the cherished goal as regards eradication of illiteracy.
