The Administration of Central region conducted a seminar last Tuesday with a view to celebrating Independence Day with still greater organizational vitality.

Asmara, 06 March 2014 – The Administration of Central region conducted a seminar last Tuesday with a view to celebrating Independence Day with still greater organizational vitality.

Speaking at the meeting in which sub-zonal Administrators, heads of the Education Ministry’s branches and representatives of national Associations took part, Mr. Asmerom Tsegabirhan, Head of the region’s Holidays Coordinating Committee, said that more focus should be made on community festivities, carnivals and school-based Independence Week events as they are vital vis-a-vis nurturing national values among the young generation. He also presented a report concerning the development of such activities in contrast with promoting national harmony and portraying the nation-building process and vis-à-vis the experience acquired thereof, besides portraying the nation-building process. Moreover, Mr. Asmerom stressed the need for ensuring enhanced youth participation.

In this connection, a call was made for attention to giving impetus to Student Week activities. The participants exchanged views on a number of vital issues in connection with organizing Independence Day celebrations in the region.

In closing remarks, Mr. Kahsai Gerehiwet, the regional Administrator, noted the importance of societal role as regards nurturing national and cultural values among to the young generation. He also called for higher efforts based on the discussion conducted. Such events should even target tourism so as to transform resources of the sector as sources of income.
