Gogne, 10 March 2014 – Herdsmen in Gogne sub-zone have called for enhanced management as regards control of wood enclosures vis-à-vis, the preservation of indigenous trees.
They further noted the importance of indigenous trees pertaining to promoting environmental stability, and said that additional punitive measures should be taken to those who fell trees.
Among the herdsmen, Osman Adem, Ibrahim Ahmed and Kamisey Abdalla indicated that palm tree is one of the predominantly existing indigenous trees, and that it’s harnessing should involve an approach that does not pose threat to deforestation. They also expressed readiness to step up participation in safeguarding wood enclosures.
