Irrigation farmers in Forto-Sawa assert that they would step up efforts to boost production

Fruits and vegetables farmers in Forto-Sawa have asserted that they would step up efforts to boost production. They made the remark at an assessment meeting, during which it was stated that they have been striving to introduce fruit and vegetable varieties that are adaptable to the area.

Forto-Sawa, 14 March 2014 – Fruits and vegetables farmers in Forto-Sawa have asserted that they would step up efforts to boost production. They made the remark at an assessment meeting, during which it was stated that they have been striving to introduce fruit and vegetable varieties that are adaptable to the area.

Accordingly, taff plantation has become effective, and that the farmers are expected to expand production.

Mr. Abubaker Mohammed, Administrator of Forto-Sawa sub-zone, called on the farmers to resort to effective utilization of land resources and thereby meet local demand.

Likewise, Mr. Ogbai Gebreamlak, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, disclosed that there exist around 373 irrigated land plots along the banks of Barka River in the locality, and that the farms have created significant employment opportunities. He also urged the farmers to resort to consultation with agriculture experts and strengthen organization.

The farmers called on the local Administration and the Agriculture Ministry’s branch to sustain collaboration in their efforts.
