Dekemhare, 16 March 2014 – The inhabitants of Afelba village, Dekemhare sub-zone, are engaged in construction of terraces and water catchment walls in a bid to prevent soil erosion on the basis of a community-led venture that has been scheduled twice in a week.
Mr. Kidane Gebreyesus, Administrator of the village, disclosed that the undertaking which targets farming areas was launched on the verge of last month, and that it is due to continue with the task of farm land preparation following the finalization of the current one. He further indicated that more than 910 meters of water catchment walls could be constructed so far through mobilization of manpower amounting to 244.
Among the participants, Ms. Azmara Mengis and Ms. Mihret Tesfamichael expressed conviction that the initiative would make significant impact as regards raising agricultural output.
