The Administration of Gash-Barka region stated that it is exerting stepped-up efforts in a bid to ensure viable public transport service including to rural areas.

Barentu, 17 March 2014 – The Administration of Gash-Barka region stated that it is exerting stepped-up efforts in a bid to ensure viable public transport service including to rural areas.

Mr. Adhanom Koreri, Head of public transport in the region, pointed out that there exist a total of 9 bus terminals and 28 transport inspectors, and that further endeavors are being made to ensure service quality.

Accordingly, more than 470 buses are operating along the routes connecting the rural areas, and that punitive measures have been taken on private bus owners charging extra fares.

In this connection, Mr. Adhanom called on the inhabitants to demonstrate higher responsiveness and report immediately in case of such misdeeds, besides sustaining popular initiatives regarding renovation of dirt roads.
