Pilgrims from inside the country and abroad are participating at the 30th anniversary celebrations of the demise of Wukaw Iz which is underway in Mahmimet under the theme “Sahel: A Reason For A Country:: EPLF: A Front For A Government”.
Mahmimet, 21 March 2014- Pilgrims from inside the country and abroad are participating at the 30th anniversary celebrations of the demise of Wukaw Iz which is underway in Mahmimet under the theme “Sahel: A Reason For A Country:: EPLF: A Front For A Government”.
The pilgrims include members of the EPLF units that physically participated in the operation, members of the People’s Army, parents and youth from the different regions of the country as well as Eritrean nationals residing in different countries.
Mr. Saleh Ali Salim, Chairman of the organizing committee, indicated that there are around 4 thousand officially invited guests, and that they are expecting many more to come.
From the pilgrims, Ms. Letekidan Kahsai expressed satisfaction for she is participating in the celebrations along with fellow liberation fighters and the people of Sahel.
Mr. Saleh Idris, inhabitant of Rora Habab, Mr. Salim Saleh, residing in Dubai, stated that they have been impressed to observe Mahmimet grow into semi-urban center, and that has been the fruit of the struggle and the heavy price paid.
Eritrean community members in Sudanese Red Sea region are also participating in the celebrations.
According to reports regional community camps, photo exhibition depicting the demise of Wukaw Iz, launching of a book as well as dramas and narration by veteran fighters and cultural shows and camel race are part of the programs.
