Official ceremony marking 30th Anniversary of Wiqaw Izz’s Demise concluded

The official ceremony marking the 30th Anniversary of Wiqaw Izz’s Demise which was conducted from 21st to the 23th of this month in Mahmime was conducted with patriotic fervor.

 

Mahmime, 24 March 2014 – The official ceremony marking the 30th Anniversary of Wiqaw Izz’s Demise which was conducted from 21st to the 23th of this month in Mahmime was conducted with patriotic fervor.

Eritrean nationals residing inside the country and abroad, freedom fighters who took part in the battle engagement, as well as Eritrean community members in the Sudanese Red Sea region Sudan participated in the event.

The event witnessed the staging of various activities such as camel racing, photo exhibition, carnival shows by local inhabitants and institutions, besides the fact that the bodies of the heroes who fell during the war engagement rested at the martyrs’ cemetery in the area.

The demise of Wiqaw Izz had a great significance during the Eritrean Armed struggle for independence for it marks the demolition of numerous members of the Ethiopian occupation forces that possessed abundant logistics and took hold of the trenches for around 5 years.
