Reports indicated that the inhabitants of Godaif sub-zone, Asmara, are making preparations for rain-fed farming with a view to raising harvest.
Asmara, 29 March 2014 – Reports indicated that the inhabitants of Godaif sub-zone, Asmara, are making preparations for rain-fed farming with a view to raising harvest.
Mr. Arefaine Gebregziabher and Mr. Abraham Gebrekristos, village Administrators, explained that the venture involves community organization, and that an area of more than 40 hectares is expected to be terraced through mobilization of around 200 manpower on daily basis. They further pointed out that active popular participation is being witnessed in the process.
Among the residents, Ms. Lula Ibrahim, Ms. Meaza Tsegai, Saba Kidane and Ms. Alganesh Gebregziabher noted the significance of soil and water conservation in vis-à-vis agricultural output. They also said that they would sustain the communal initiative through further consultation with agriculture experts.
The community members expressed conviction that the undertaking would have significant impact as regards enriching water resources in the area, and thus giving rise to a bountiful harvest.
