Fruit and vegetable farmers in Laelai-Gash sub-zone striving to meet local demand

The inhabitants of Laelai-Gash sub-zone indicated that fruits and vegetable farmers in the locality are exerting commendable efforts in a bid to meet local demand.

Ugaro, 03 April 2014 – The inhabitants of Laelai-Gash sub-zone indicated that fruits and vegetable farmers in the locality are exerting commendable efforts in a bid to meet local demand.

Among the inhabitants, Ms. Elsa Hagos and Mr. Fissehatsion Estifanos stated that increased harvest from irrigated farms have favored supply of fruits and vegetables in the sub-zone, and hence the dropping of the prices thereof.

Mr. Zemichael Zerizgi and Mr. Mulugeta Siyum, irrigation farmers, explained that the locality is witnessing irrigation development thanks to the sustained endears they are putting up. The farmers also asserted that they would step up efforts for a still more gratifying level of harvest.

Mr. Dejen Tekie, in charge of horticulture development in the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, said that irrigation farming activities are being conducted on a total area of 192 hectares, and that so much input has been made as regards meeting local demand. Accordingly, the branch office renders continued consultation service to the farmers.
