The inhabitants of Gelalo semi-urban center are engaged in popular campaign programs aimed at construction of water diversion scheme at the river flowing through their area and making use of it for agricultural development.

Massawa, 6 March 2014- The inhabitants of Gelalo semi-urban center are engaged in popular campaign programs aimed at construction of water diversion scheme at the river flowing through their area and making use of it for agricultural development.

Mr. Hamoda Momin, Administrator Gelalo administrative area, indicated that the flood flowing through the river during the rainy season has been very strong and causing damage on the water wells and water pumping generators, and that the construction of the water diversion scheme would have significant contribution in soil and water conservation.

From the participants Ms. Asha Hamoda and Ms. Fatma Momin said that the aim of the popular campaign is to save their property from the damage caused by the flooding during the rainy season, and make use of the water that has been flowing to the sea for agricultural activities.

Mr. Ahmed Osman and Mr. Ismail Siraj on their part expressed satisfaction for participating in such a noble popular campaign, and that they would reinforce participation in the development programs.

According to the report from the administrative area, the inhabitants and members of the People’s Army are engaged in construction of a stadium in a bid to strengthening community based sports activities.
