Ambassador Beyene Russom holds discussion with Vice President of Kenya focusing on enhancement of bilateral ties

Mr. Beyene Russom, the Eritrean Ambassador to Kenya, conducted discussion with Mr. William Ruto, Vice President of the country, focusing on enhancement of bilateral ties and regional as well as international issues of mutual interest to both countries.

Asmara, 7 April 2014 – Mr. Beyene Russom, the Eritrean Ambassador to Kenya, conducted discussion with Mr. William Ruto, Vice President of the country, focusing on enhancement of bilateral ties and regional as well as international issues of mutual interest to both countries.

In the course of the meeting which was held at the Vice President’s office, both sides discussed the developments of the region, and Mr. Beyene pointed out that Eritrea has been exerting stepped-up efforts towards promoting peace and stability in the region, and that it would sustain its endeavors to this end.

Indicating that it is Eritrea’s desire for South Sudan’s nationals to solve their internal problem, he asserted that the Ethiopian government’s smear campaign labeling Eritrea as a supporter of the South Sudan’s rebel group is based on a pure lie.

The Kenyan Vice President on his part said that his country has clear understanding as regards Eritrea’s active engagement in the endeavors being made to promote the region’s peace. He further expressed the Kenyan government’s readiness to enhance bilateral relations with Eritrea.

It was stated during the meeting that preparations are being made to launch flights to and from Asmara and Kenya by Eritrean Airlines as well as Kenya Airways with a view to furthering trade and investment prospects between the two countries.
