Geleb, 14 April 2014 – Fruit and vegetable farmers in Geleb sub-zone are exerting remarkable efforts in a bid to meet local demand.
Among the farmers, Mr. Kierbu Seid Ali, Mr. Omar Ibrahim and Yasin Mohammed-Salih indicated that the sub-zone’s favorable climatic setting coupled with abundance of water favors irrigation activities, and thus giving impetus to improvement of farmers’ livelihood. They further asserted that they would step up efforts for a still more gratifying harvest.
Mr. Bereket Mebrahtu, agronomy expert, stated that the locality is endowed with rich underground water, and said that temperate fruits planted in the locality have flourished well.
Reports indicate that there exists a 300-hectare potential for irrigation farming in Geleb sub-zone.
