Halhale National Agricultural Research Center striving to reproduce more select seeds

The Director General of Halhale National Agricultural Research Center, Dr. Eyasu Gebretatios, indicated that stepped-up efforts are being exerted to reproduce more select seeds that are resistant to diseases on the basis of more advanced infrastructural and other facilities.

Asmara, 16 April 2014 – The Director General of Halhale National Agricultural Research Center, Dr. Eyasu Gebretatios, indicated that stepped-up efforts are being exerted to reproduce more select seeds that are resistant to diseases on the basis of more advanced infrastructural and other facilities.

He further expressed conviction that the project would solve the prevailing scarcity in supply of potato, banana and date seeds.

Mr. Mussie Fikadu, head of bio-technology in the research center and in charge the follow-up of the ongoing activities, stated that the process is at the stage of conclusion, and that higher endeavors are being put up to produce highly disease-resistant potato seeds within the coming 6 months.

Established in 1994, Halhale National Agricultural Research Center carries out research activities in connection with crop development, natural resource management, livestock development, animal and plant gene banking, as well as agricultural engineering, and has branches in Sheib, Goluj as well as Shambuko.
