The Administration of Geleb sub-zone state that micro-dams in the locality have made significant impact as regards enriching underground water resource.

Geleb, 21 April 2014 – The Administration of Geleb sub-zone state that micro-dams in the locality have made significant impact as regards enriching underground water resource.

Mr. Ahmed Osman Firuj, Administrator of the sub-zone, disclosed that there exist a total of 6 micro-dams having strategic locations for water catchment in the sub-zone, while there still exist plans to construct more micro-dams and water catchment wall is being built in the environs of a nursery in Geleb.

Mr. Bihaymanot Ainealem, agricultural engineering expert in the locality, pointed out that the water catchment wall is 180 meters long and 3 meters high. It is a prerequisite for fostering irrigation activities in the area, he added.

In this connection, reports indicated that the potable water supply demand both for humans and livestock could be met on the basis of such availability of water reserve.
