The Association of Fruit and Vegetable Farmers in the Southern region stated that it would step up endeavors for a still more gratifying outcome.
Mendefera, 02 May 2014 – The Association of Fruit and Vegetable Farmers in the Southern region stated that it would step up endeavors for a still more gratifying outcome. It made the remark at an assessment meeting last Tuesday, during which it was pointed out that the Association could secure more than 452,000 quintals of harvest from a total of 13,653 hectares, and that 30% was consumed within the region.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Negasi Tesfamichael, Secretary of the Association, noted the vitality of favoring direct sales to end users so as to encourage both producers and consumers.
Mr. Teklu Beraki from the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the region on his part called on pertinent bodies to play due role as regards laying groundwork for direct purchase by end users from the Association.
The participants of the meeting exchanged views on several issues, and elected a new management committee.
In closing remarks, Mr. Hailemichael Eyob, Head of the Land and Agriculture department in the Administration of the Southern region, expressed appreciation for the manner of reporting and mode of election witnessed in the meeting, and urged the new members of the committee to put up added efforts for the realization of the Association’s cherished goals. He also asserted the Administration’s readiness to collaborate with them.
The Association of Fruit and Vegetable Farmers in the Southern region comprises a total of 4,000 members, 453 of whom are females.
