Construction of dam underway in Selae-Daero area

Construction of a dam is underway in Selae-Daero Administrative area, Gala-Nefhi sub-zone, witnessing high spirit of popular participation in a bid to secure more water for humans and livestock as well as agricultural purpose.

Asmara, 02 May 2014 – Construction of a dam is underway in Selae-Daero Administrative area, Gala-Nefhi sub-zone, witnessing high spirit of popular participation in a bid to secure more water for humans and livestock as well as agricultural purpose.

Mr. Biniam Haile from the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the Central region disclosed that the dam would have a potential of impounding 120,000 cubic meters of water, and thus supplying more than 1,500 households as well as a 12-hectare of irrigation farm.

Mr. Mebrahtu Tekhlia, Administrator of the area, indicated that the community members have been engaged in effective soil and water conservation activities with a view to restoring erosion-his areas, and that they are demonstrating stepped-up participation in the construction of the dam which is due to make remarkable impact as regards improving their socio-economic livelihood.
